A wonderful weekend filled with performances and music video projects 😊🎹🎤🎸🎶

Today, I had a music video shoot with Shahab Zargari and I’m so thrilled to work with him again. We did a video shoot for two of the songs on my new album featuring soprano Olivia Yokers, along with some of my piano/electric guitar interludes featuring Tasos Peltekis (improvised electric guitar) with me on piano.

My new album features singers Olivia Yokers, Norman Espinoza, electric guitarist Tasos Peltekis and me on piano. Each of the songs are separated by short interlude for piano and improvised electric guitar. I’m really excited to share more info about the album in the coming months. 😊

Also, congrats to Tasos Peltekis on a fantastic composition recital on Saturday and it was really fun playing piano on his piece Mirrors again with Evyn Joseph, Leanna Oliver, Andy Vasquez, Jeayoung Jo, Tasos on guitar, and with Tim Warren conducting.

It was a wonderful experience for me to hear the music written by four of our UNLV composers come to life with choreography at the Troesh Studio Theater at the Smith Center this past weekend. Congratulations to composers Alec Schantz, Julius Trenkler, Sophie Cheesman, and Tasos Peltekis on composing such beautiful music for the first Nevada Ballet NBT Dance Lab in collaboration with choreographers Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair, Christian Denice, Haley Winegarden, and Mariana Oliveira. Their choreography for each piece made each artistic interpretation unique, adventurous, and breathtaking.

Thank you, Artistic Director Roy Kaiser, for the opportunity to collaborate with you to make this happen! Many thanks to all of the musicians (Ambroise Aubrun, Andy Smith, Bryan Conger, Jae Ahn-Benton, Tasos Peltekis, and Shawna Pennock) for learning and recording all of the music, and to Ron George from the UNLV recording studio. All of the recordings sound fabulous and I’m incredibly relieved all of this came together so quickly and successfully! Also, thank you, Dean Nancy Uscher for all of your support!

Last night, The Gustavus Wind Orchestra, under the direction of James Patrick Miller, premiered the wind ensemble version of Noir and it was phenomenal. Soloists Dylan Halom (tenor sax) and Conor Jolly (electric guitar) along with Luke Casey on drums did an incredible job and it was a thrill to hear this new version. They will be performing it again here in Vegas on Saturday, February, 7PM, at the Community Lutheran Church (3720 E Tropicana Ave) Thank you, James, and the Gustavus Wind Orchestra!

Had a wonderful time performing my piece Indigo Nocturne with Shawna Pennock at the International Saxophone Symposium! One of my goals this year is to learn and perform my own music when the piece includes piano and it was a thrilling experience for me to share my music in this way. Looking forward to recording this piece with her!

Shawna also performed Zanelle by Viet Cuong and she had us all draw something that came to mind while listening to the piece. That was fun (and Viet, I hope you enjoy our drawings)!

Very happy to spend the week with my parents in my

Very happy to spend the week with my parents in my hometown, Massena, NY. Focused on writing projects and met a deadline (wind ensemble version of Noir) 🎶, worked out at the gym every day with my dad 💪, and now got to spend Friday night catching up with them over cocktails and delicious food 🥰❄️🎄

The Palo Verde high school chorus and orchestra pr

The Palo Verde high school chorus and orchestra premiered my piece “Hodie Christus Natus Est” on December 1st at their holiday concert and it was such a beautiful performance. It felt very special for me to also be a part of this premiere from a performance standpoint, since I had the opportunity to sing with the choir. Thank you, Tim Warren and Barry Isbell, for the opportunity to write this piece and work with all of you! Here are a couple of video clips: The first one is an excerpt from the beginning part of the piece and the second is a climactic point with the full orchestra. The entire recording will be available on my website and SoundCloud page.

My favorite jazz tune is Chick Corea’s Crystal Silence. I don’t consider myself a jazz pianist by any means (I can think of so many of my friends, colleagues, and students who are incredible jazz pianists), but I love taking this chart out every now and then to play and practice improvising. This piece has brought me so much inspiration and happiness. ❤️
