Commissioned by Sophia Tegart and Chris Wilson and members from the consortium, Dream of a Falling Star is inspired by a dream I once had of being up in space witnessing the journey of a shooting star.
The piece is separated into mini movements performed continuously without pause:
A duet between a star and its sky
Interlude: Floating above the stillness
Lament of a falling star
Interlude: Reflecting on its fate
Embracing its destiny
Coda: Return to dust
It was premiered October 17, 2024 at Washington State University featuring Sophia Tegart (flute) , Chris Wilson (vibraphone/crotales), and Jennifer Bellor (piano). They performed it at the 2026 National Flute Convention Opening Gala Concert.
